Privacy Policy

Ro ("we", "us", "our") operates the Ro mobile application ("Service"), a community app for sharing and planning Malagasy home cooking. This page explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have, including how to delete your account and your data.

Account information: email address, password (stored encrypted), display name, profile photo, and short bio.

Content you create: posts, comments, replies, reactions, and stories you publish, along with the recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, and favorites you save in the app.

Cooking preferences: household size, monthly food budget, and dietary/meal preferences, used to personalize recipe suggestions.

Social graph: who you follow, who you block, and reports you submit, used to run the community and safety features (follow, block, report).

Device and session data: device information and login timestamps, used to keep your account secure (e.g. detecting a new device sign-in).

We do not collect your phone number or postal address, and we do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Ro uses the collected data to:

• Provide and operate the Service (feed, stories, recipes, meal planning, shopping lists)
• Personalize recipe suggestions based on your budget and preferences
• Enable social features (follow, comments, reactions) and community safety tools (block, report)
• Keep your account secure, including detecting suspicious sign-ins
• Provide customer support and respond to your requests
• Improve the Service based on usage patterns

Ro is a social app: posts, comments, reactions, and your public profile (name, photo, bio) are visible to other users, subject to the block and report tools available in the app. Recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, and preferences you keep to yourself are private and only visible to you.

You can permanently delete your account and associated data at any time from the app: Settings → Delete Account. Deletion removes your profile, posts, comments, stories, and social connections. Some records may be retained for a limited period where required by law (e.g. fraud prevention) before final removal.

This section covers the ro-mg.vercel.app website only, not the mobile app, which is covered above. To measure and improve the site, we collect: your approximate location (country and city, resolved from your IP address and never sent to a third party), device type and browser, the page you visited and how you got there (referrer, or campaign parameters like utm_source when you follow a marketing link), how long you stayed, and whether you clicked a download badge (App Store / Google Play). That click is the only way we can tell if the site drives downloads, since we cannot see whether an install actually followed it.

We set two first-party cookies with no advertising purpose: one identifies your browser across visits for up to 400 days (so we can count real visitors instead of overcounting the same person twice), the other groups your page views into a single 30-minute visit. Your IP address is recorded alongside this data to tell visitors apart and is kept for the same 400-day period, then automatically deleted. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not share this data with third-party analytics or advertising services.

The security of your data is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We use commercially reasonable means (encrypted passwords, authenticated sessions) to protect your data, but cannot guarantee absolute security.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page, with the "Last updated" date revised accordingly.
